Christmas Come Early: Oscars 2013

Now that we all have our Post Oscars buzz, let's take a step back and evaluate my favorite evening of the year.

The Host

Well, Seth MacFarlane, I had my reservations about you....but you were pretty entertaining, I must say. The choice in host definitely appealed to the younger audience, but overall he did what he does best, make inappropriate jokes and make fun of himself. Seth was entertaining enough, but was he the best choice? Hell no. Bring me some Fey and Poehler.

The Music

Ohhhhh hell yeah....the Oscars were breathed a little life into them this year by making it a themed night. (80s theme next year?????) Although I wish I could have just watched Les Mis perform every song (mainly Aaron Tveit's), it was quite possibly my dreams all coming true at one time to see these movie musicals perform live. Hudson and Zeta-Jones were incredible, and Les Mis may or may not have induced a panic attack. Then after I thought my inner musical freak couldn't handle anymore, Barbra comes on. I was dead.....then they brought in Adele, and I died again. Yay for people who know how to sing!

So Perfect.

THE WINNERS

Oh Ben Affleck, the whole world is teary eyed over this win, you have come so far my child. Argo winning best picture was a huge shocker, after being snubbed in pretty much every other category. Jennifer Lawrence must be doing something right (and by that I mean being fucking awesome). She took home best actress, but not without making a hilarious fall up the stairs first. Anne Hathaway....obvi I can't say I was upset she won, she was phenomenal.....but there's something about her that can really irritate a person....maybe it's the hair? Daniel Day Lewis took home the golden statue for Lincoln (shocker). What was surprising was his hilarious speech, and then the loving tribute to his wife, swoon, this old guy is a total fox. Finally, Christoph Waltz.... I love you and am so happy he won, he is too adorable and talented.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Oscars 2013

Here it is ladies and gentlemen..... a movie junkie's favorite time of the year.... Oscar nominations! I had to contain my overwhelming excitement in class today when reading this orgasmic list. Who the hell cares about rural life when I can't stop fantasizing on what slutty dress Jennifer Lawrence is going to wear this year, or how freaking sexy Hugh Jackman is going to look without all that grotesque 1800s French facial hair. The fact of the matter is.... this is the second best day of the year... next to the Oscars themselves. It gives us film freaks the chance to see if the Academy really knows what they are talking about... or not.

Here are some of my favorites of the nominees:

Silver Linings Playbook: Directed by David O Russell, starring the devilishly handsome Bradley Cooper, the man himself Robert De Niro, and the perfect specimen of a human, Jennifer Lawrence. (no bias) This Dramedy explores the touchy subject of mental illness in a quick, witty nature while squeezing in a (not to prominent ) love story. The great thing about this movie is how much you fall in love with these characters. The script along with the stellar performances are what won this film these nominations. The writing is smart, fresh, and entertaining. I love the fact this film is nominated because it's not a big budget project, it's raw.
Moral of the story: Go, and tell me how much you love Brad and Jen after.

Les Miserables: Directed by Tom Hooper, starring every single celebrity that has ever lived. This movie is epic. One of the most moving, beautiful movies I have seen. Hugh Jackman shines as Jean Val   Jean and ex convict trying to live a moral life. The music, history, love story is what makes this movie a romanic's dream come true. Anne Hathaway's chilling portray of Fantine makes me shiver when hearing a rather haunting version of "I Dreamed a Dream". So ladies and gents, if you wanna cry..... multiple times..... see this film. With the amount of death's in this movie, it will be hard not to ugly cry all over the theater.

Argo: Directed, staring, and written by Ben Affleck (obsessed with yourself much?) Great story. Affleck tackled a very famous story and made the audience uncertain of what the outcome would be. Overall, I am proud that Affleck has metamorphosized into a top Hollywood contender. You've come a long way since that one kid from Boston. I would examine more, but it's just one of those movies you must go se.

Lincoln.... Daniel Day Lewis is a freak he is so good. Even if historical pictures bore you.... you have to witness him as Honest Abe.

Overall, it was a great year for the Oscars. I would say the movies I listed are great starter films, more to come on the nominees!
